The Rocket Express Car Wash in Midvale is an innovative, technologically-advanced car wash system, and one of only two in the nation presently. The facility aims to service at least 250,000 vehicles annually,
The project includes 220 feet of state-of-the-art systems integration. The “first stage” incorporates stainless steel wash equipment set in operation by a motor control center and electronic eyes, hydraulic operations and a system of counterweights. The “last stage” is the drying bay where 22 super-velocity blowers and multiple jet heaters strip water from vehicles.
The architectural character is reminiscent of Futurist and Googie Style design popularized in the 1940’s and into the 1960’s that was influenced by car culture, jets, and the space age. The building itself advocates its function and rocket theme in many ways but mainly through the oversized precast archways at the tunnel entrance and exit that emulate a rocket ship. There are multiple aluminum back-lit rocket elements, color-changing composite metal panels, and glass block punched openings that reinforce the visual imagery and thematic experience.
