HCA MountainStar Lone Peak Hospital
Owner: HCA MountainStar
Architect: ESA Architects
GC: Layton Construction
Mechanical: Structural Design Group
Lone Peak Hospital in Draper is a three-story, 118,000 SF, 30-bed facility which connects to an existing HCA MountainStar medical office building with a full-service emergency department and lab spaces. This attractive, modern $54 million hospital includes large, spacious patient rooms with ample views of either the Wasatch or Oquirrh (O-Kerr) Mountains. The size of the facility was dictated by healthcare demands at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, One entire floor was not built out, so as to accommodate future growth. This phase will meet community needs for obstetrical and surgical care, as well as outpatient diagnostic services.
Settlement issues and poor native soil quality dictated the use of shallow spread footings bearing on Geo-Piers, which support the building’s primary columns. Potential seismic challenges required large footings or grade beams running below ground between columns at their bases. The most cost-effective structural solution was the use of concrete-encased steel moment frame grade beams between column bases with patented Side-Plate connections.
The exterior shell features glass and EIFS with stone accent finishes, with the building being highly visible off Interstate 15.
